I’m so frikken excited

Have you seen the Saturday Night Live sketch where Christopher Walken plans a surprise party for his granddaughter?  In the sketch Kristen Wiig plays a character named “Sue” who is easily, and over, excited.  If you haven’t seen it, you can check it out on Hulu here.   I remind you of this sketch because it’s the only way I can describe to you how excited I was yesterday when our new counter tops arrived. Without further ado…let’s take a quick look back and then the big reveal.

In the beginning...The original kitchen had really great black, granite counters sitting on top of 1972 cabinets clearly showing their years of use and abuse. The previous owners attempted to paint the cabinets white. Unfortunately, they did a lousy job.

When we first considered our kitchen remodeling options, we looked at a floor plan with the same footprint as the old kitchen thinking we might reuse the granite counters. But ultimately, the existing layout just didn't work with the dream kitchen we really wanted.

We removed the existing granite counters during demo, but hung on to them for potential use else where in the house during future renovations.

Skipping ahead a little here to cabinet installation. In between demo and this picture, we did drywall, paint, installed ceiling planks, new flooring, and rewired electrical.

Moving in appliances.

Adding cabinet doors and drawers.

Admiring our mullion doors and beautiful under cabinet lighting.

Getting the farmhouse sink and dishwasher in place in preparation for the counter top installation.

Ta-da! Our new counter tops.

You might remember from a previous post that we selected Silestone quartz counters in Alpina White.

A couple of close-ups...

Triple pencil edging.

Around the sink.

We set the faucet and range top in place to get a better sense of what it would look like. Unfortunately, plumbing and gas hook up will have to wait until the new year.

So, there you have it. I’m so frikken excited (Have you watched that SNL clip yet?). Don’t worry,  I won’t be crashing through any windows any time soon.

Hi, Amanda. I am really obsessing over the mullion doors. Do you remember where you purchased them and what they cost?

We purchased our cabinets including the mullion doors from Conestoga Wood Specialties. I don’t remember how much they cost anymore.
