Happy Fasnacht DayPosted: March 9, 2011
You know you’re in PA Dutch country when folks are celebrating Fasnacht Day. A Fasnacht is a pastry that’s served just before the start of Lent. Back in the day, baking Fasnachts were a way to use up items, like sugar and lard, that would be given up in observance of Lent. Really, it’s a celebration of donuts. Hubby grew up with this tradition as a child. I wrote about it last year. As a relatively new resident to central PA, this is a celebration I’m looking forward to embracing. The only thing better would be a holiday dedicated to bacon.
